Bakwena​ ​converted​ ​its​ ​annual​ ​golf​ ​day​ ​into​ ​a​ ​charity​ ​fundraiser​ ​13​ ​years​ ​ago.​ ​Since then,​ ​it​ ​has​ ​assisted​ ​6​ ​charities​ ​(with an additional charity added in the last two years) with more​ ​than​ ​R2 148 650​ ​million​ ​which has been raised over​ ​the​ ​years.​

This year’s charity golf day saw an amazing amount of R135 250 being raised for their selected charities.
​“As custodians​ ​of​ ​the​ ​N1N4​ ​toll,​ ​we​ ​harness​ ​our​ ​relationships​ ​with​ ​government​ ​and​ ​industry stakeholders​ ​to​ ​help​ ​uplift​ ​communities​ ​along​ ​our​ ​route.​ ​The​ ​golf​ ​day​ ​is​ ​one​ ​of​ ​the​ ​many initiatives​ ​we​ ​are​ ​involved​ ​in, ”says​ ​Solomon Kganyago, Chief Operating Officer for Bakwena.

The weather held, allowing the players to complete all 18 holes in record time enabling them to enjoy prize giving and dinner. As always, the competition was tight, however the first ten fourballs walked away with prizes including two nearest to the pin and the longest day golfers.

One lucky winner walked away with a raffle prize valued at approximately R1 500 which was generously donated to us by Webber Wentzel.

The seven charities who were selected to benefit from this year’s event are Thusanang Early Learning Centre, PinkDrive, WheelWell, HAWS (Hartebeespoort Animal Welfare Society) Cansa, Laudium Cancer Care and Mohau House.
