BAKWENA BOLSTERS N1N4 SAFETY MEASURES AHEAD OF 2026 EASTER HOLIDAY SURGE

South Africa — March 24, 2026 — As the school and Easter holiday season approaches, Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd, (Bakwena) has a comprehensive safety and operational plan to ensure a smoother journey for motorists traveling the N1 and N4 routes through Gauteng, Limpopo, and North West provinces.

Central to this year’s campaign is the 14th consecutive collaboration between Bakwena & Motus Corporation. On Friday, 27 March, six Renault Captur vehicles—boasting a 4-star Euro NCAP safety rating—will be handed over to Bakwena and relevant law enforcement authorities. These additional vehicles will be deployed to bolster route surveillance, crash assistance, and road user support during the high-traffic period. “This Easter Safety Campaign marks Renault’s 4th year of partnering with Bakwena. We look forward to a continued collaboration in ensuring our roads become safer for both motorists and pedestrians alike over high volume travel periods”, Nosipho Manitshana, VP Marketing & Communications Renault SA.

“As we prepare for the major influx of traffic, we want to remind road users that the road is a shared space,” says Solomon Kganyago, Chief Operations Officer at Bakwena. “It takes one good decision to save a life. We urge motorists to buckle up, obey speed limits, and ensure both drivers and vehicles are fit for the journey.”

Key Operational Highlights for Easter 2026:

  • Suspension of Roadworks: To maximize traffic flow, all crucial roadworks will be suspended during the holiday period.
  • Enhanced Monitoring: Increased presence of law enforcement and Bakwena patrol vehicles to promote driver vigilance.
  • Fatigue Management: Motorists are urged to stop and rest every two hours or 200km.

Peak Travel Times & Congestion Warning

  • Friday, 3rd April: 06:00 – 15:00
