Bakwena N1N4 toll road is carrying out construction, rehabilitation and maintenance along the N1 and N4 in order to provide and maintain a freeway which meets certain specified engineering standards.
Motorists would have noticed that there is a lot of road work going on in Swartruggens and to the East of the N4. The work that is being carried out comprises of two components.
Firstly, Bakwena is carrying out its obligations in complying with the contract it has with SANRAL in regarding the N4. Secondly, additional work has been started in Swartruggens. This work forms part of the regeneration of Swartruggens but is not part of Bakwena’s obligations in terms of the contract it has with SANRAL. As a responsible corporate citizen, Bakwena saw fit to carry out this work at its own cost.
Bakwena strives to improve the lives of those residing in communities along our route. The contractors executing on the N4 use labour from the local communities in the area where practical. We have a Corporate Social Investment Programme within 3km on either side of the N4 running from Tshwane to the Botswana border which began in 2002. Bakwena is proud to support the targeted communities, including the Swartruggens community. All the funds that Bakwena invests go directly into the projects from which the communities will benefit. We would like to thank the authorities which are assisting us with the accommodation of our traffic as well as our road users for their co-operation and patience while we undertake these works.
