What an exciting outing! Bakwena held our 7th annual clean-up campaign in Swartruggens on Friday the 2nd November 2012.
Three schools namely Kgetleng Primary, Swartruggens Gekombineerde and Swartruggens Intermediate took part in this green initiative to clean up the area around their schools.
Kgetleng school took the lead with 233 bags being collected thereby claiming R5 000 prize money, Gekombineerde followed in second place with 190 bags and prize money of R4 000 and in third place we had Swartruggens Intermediate with 120 bags being collected and R1 000 in prize money.
Participation is voluntary, however the enthusiasm from the kids taking part is overwhelming. This is just one of our initiatives together with the environmental workshops carried out by EWT that ensure the importance of our environment is understood and preserved.
Bakwena further supports looking after the environment by maintaining the N4 road reserve. We employ SMME contractors who collect some 28 000 black bags of debris per month along our route. This debris is then sorted and as far as possible recycled.
Bakwena provides the children with medical gloves to protect their hands as well as a cooldrink and a packet of chips and a t-shirt. We consider everyone’s contribution on the day to have a huge impact on the surrounding environment.
