On Friday the 11th September, Bakwena, together with children from Kgetleng, Swartruggens and Swartruggens Gekombineerde primary school took part in our annual clean-up campaign whereby almost 900 bags of rubbish was collected between the three schools.
The children painted Swartruggens town “green” as they excitedly combed the streets surrounding their schools armed with rubbish bags, rubber gloves and tons of enthusiasm. Within an hour and a half almost 900 bags of rubbish was collected and the visible results of the area surrounding their schools was phenomenal. The competition was tight and the final results saw Kgetleng Primary and Swartruggens Gekombineerde Skool sharing first place, each gets R4 000 in prize money, followed by second place which went to Swartruggens Primary who will receive R2 000.
Bakwena cares for the environment and strives to make a difference by raising awareness amongst community members about the importance of living in a litter free environment.
The t-shirts, gloves, rubbish bags, refreshment as well as prize money for the schools was proudly sponsored by Bakwena. Pt Ops’s road maintenance contractor Mongolele Trading assisted Bakwena in collecting of the rubbish bags.
