Bakwena held its fifth annual cycle race on Sunday the 8th November 2009 and it turned out to be a fun and exciting day for all. The pro-elite riders raced at such a pace that they raced through the finish line well ahead of all the other cycling categories. Congratulations go to Jacque Fullard and Altie Clark, who claimed the winning title for the mens and ladies elite race.
Proceeds raised from the race entries are to be donated to CANSA, an organisation that provides invaluable support to cancer sufferers and relies on the donations and support of the public. . The Bakwena Superclassic has become a firm fixture on the race calendar, and each year has seen the number of cyclists grow. Bakwena, supported by the South African Post Office and Nedbank Capital would like to thank all their other sponsors which included Netcare 911, Tollreach, Africon, AIG, Dischem, SANRAL, Speke Cycling Club and Francosports, who provided logistical arrangements and support, without their generous contributions this race would not have been a success! Our sincere appreciation must go to the road users and local residents along the Bakwena N4 Highway for their support and understanding during the race. Total road closure on the N4 between Doornpoort Plaza and the Brits Interchange was provided during the race to ensure a safe cycling environment for the cyclists.
The next Bakwena Superclassic race takes place on the 7th November 2010 – diarize it now and join us for another day of cycling fun.
Bakwena would just like to remind all cyclists that cycling on a freeway is dangerous and illegal and only permitted when the road is closed to all traffic.
