Bakwena facilitated a simulated emergency exercise at the Buffelspoort interchange on the N4 on Wednesday the 25th November 2009. The purpose of this exercise was to test the capabilities of the emergency services on the Bakwena N1N4 ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup for all eventualities.
The “accident” involved a large interlink truck, a 30 seater bus and a minibus taxi. There were 30 “injured” patients and 4 “fatalities”.
The key players in the Incident Management System (IMS) were Rustenburg Fire, NW Emergency Rescue Services from Rustenburg and Madibeng, NW Provincial Traffic, Madibeng Fire, Lonmin emergency personnel, as well as the SAPS from the local police stations along the route.
The call was made, the call centre dispatched the necessary emergency personnel and it was all systems go for the key players of the Incident Management System. The simulation proved to be a success and all objectives of the simulation were achieved.
After the simulation there was a debriefing and everybody learned what can be done to improve the management of incidents.
The above is just one of the many exercises that Bakwena undertakes to ensure that we keep YOU, the Road User, informed, safe and moving at all times. Bakwena cares!
