Bakwena facilitated a simulated emergency exercise at the Maubane interchange on the N1 on Wednesday the 31st March 2010. The purpose of this exercise was to test the capabilities of the emergency services on the Bakwena N1N4 for all eventualities.
The “accident” involved two taxi’s and a sedan. There were 30 “injured” patients and 2 “fatalities”.
The key players in the Incident Management System (IMS) were Tshwane Fire, Limpopo Emergency Medical Rescue Services from Bela Bela, Limpopo Provincial Traffic and Tshwane Metro Police.
The simulation was a huge success, the response time of the emergency personnel was excellent. The “injured” patients were seen to and transported off the scene of the accident within forty minutes. A debriefing for all emergency personnel was held afterwards in order to see where further improvements could be made in the management of incidents on the N1.
Bakwena undertakes simulation exercises on a regular basis to exercise and prove the capabilities of emergency personnel.
