Bapong is one of the communities that is situated along the N4 Bakwena highway. Poor water quality and lack of reliable water supply has long since been a problem within this community. Their only solution where they could get water free of charge was on the southern side of the highway which meant that the community would need to cross the busy N4 in order to get water.
Pedestrian bridges are in place, however various criminal activities take place on a regular basis on these pedestrian bridges, thereby forcing the community to illegally cross the highway instead. This is an unsafe practice and causes a road hazard to the road users.
At Bakwena’s cost a borehole was sunk within the Bapong community. The NGO Water For All assisted Bakwena by equipping the borehole with a 380 watt solar pump and two 5000 litre storage tanks. The solar powered pump reduces the impact on the environment. Water is also provided from the borehole to the community centre.
