Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd, (Bakwena) in partnership with PinkDrive and the Gauteng Department of Health held a successful wellness day at Kekana Gardens Clinic in Hammanskraal on Tuesday the 11 October 2022.
The main focus of the wellness day was on breast cancer awareness, education and screening. The Gauteng Department of Health joined forces by making available prostate & testicular cancer education & screening, family planning advice, HIV testing as well pap smears for the community members.
Collectively 49 breast education & examinations, 42 pap smears, 24 HIV tests and 20 PSA tests along with education took place during the course of the day.
The second leg of the campaign focused on road safety which was done in partnership with the North West Department of Education and Active Education and was rolled out on 13 & 14 October in 4 schools. Road safety education is a priority all year round for Bakwena, however during Transport Month they focus on road safety shows which is implemented from the ground up, starting at primary school level to help promote road safety awareness.
This year the area focused on was Swartruggens which saw learners from Swartruggens Intermediate, Moedwil Primary, Kgetleng Primary and Swartruggens Gekombineerde being involved in road safety education being done in a fun and participatory way highlighting how to safely cross a road and addressing the importance of wearing seatbelts. Bakwena also provided reflective sashes known as “Walking Seatbelts” to the children to ensure they are visible to motorists to reduce pedestrian accidents.
Solomon Kganyago, Chief Operating Officer at Bakwena says the principles of Bakwena’s Corporate Social Investment involvement is based on the basic values of community development and taking learnings from previous projects and experiences which supports and contributes to the development of communities along the Bakwena N1N4 route.
Through these partnerships, we hope to encourage and empower community members to look after their health and also provide our vulnerable road users like our youth with critical road safety education. Safety is a core part of everything we do in our business. Bakwena remains committed to improving and protecting the lives of those residing along the N1N4 route.
