The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire is proud to announce that it has appointed Solomon Kganyago as its new Commercial Manager.
Kganyago brings with him overall 17 years of work experience, dedicating 11 of those years to his time at the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) where his last position was Deputy Regional Manager.
“We are delighted to welcome Solomon to the team and look forward to his contribution to help drive Bakwena towards our ambitions and mandate of designing, building, financing, upgrading and maintaining 385km of the N1 and N4 routes in accordance with word-class standards,” says Graeme Blewitt, CEO of Bakwena.
Kganyago adds that Bakwena often sets the standards for the industry, both in delivering upon its mandate and in championing various causes that drive socioeconomic benefits for the communities in which it operates.
His plans to advance the concessionaire’s long term strategic goals to deliver a relevant commercial strategy which includes but not limited to transformation, stakeholder management and corporate social investment.
Kganyago believes these pillars will further entrench Bakwena as a responsible road authority that delivers safe and sustainable toll road infrastructure. Bakwena further plays an important role in improving the quality of life of the surrounding communities along the N1N4 corridor by providing economic and socioeconomic opportunities in the construction and maintenance of its route network.
In 2019 Bakwena will be investing approximately R270 million on large capital projects which include rehabilitation and upgrading of road infrastructure of the N1N4 routes.
The resurfacing of the N4 westbound carriageway between the R512 up to Buffelspoort interchange was completed in December 2018, at a cost of R101 million. Also completed in the same time frame was the special maintenance of the N1N4. Bakwena has various ongoing projects, some extending until 2020.
Bakwena’s improvement plans include three large road construction projects that will aid an efficient, competitive and responsive road infrastructure network.
- the N4 Groot Marico project was awarded in mid-2017 and entails the reconstruction of the N4 in
Groot Marico between Vaalkop and the Swartruggens boundary. The project cost is an estimated
R250 million and the anticipated completion date is June 2019. - the R511 Interchange project was awarded in March 2018 which entails the provision of west
facing ramps. The R55 million project will be completed by February 2019. - the addition of 32km of a second carriageway on the N4 between the M17 and R512 (Brits
Interchange). The project costs R582 million with a 36-month construction period that is scheduled
to be completed in June 2021.
“With my SANRAL experience I understand the importance and magnitude of these projects and the impact thereof on our diverse stakeholders. I am very fortunate to be working with a team of highly motivated and skilled individuals who all wish to see Bakwena continue to deliver road infrastructure that adds real value and economic benefit to South Africa,” Kganyago concludes.
