Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd in partnership with Active Education and the Department for Basic Education joined forces in Transport Month to roll out a Road Safety Roadshow in six primary schools in the Hammanskraal area on the 18 & 19 October 2018.
3 children under the age of 15 die on South Africa’s roads every day, these deaths are among the13800 road fatalities per year giving South Africa one of the highest road deaths records in the world.
This initiative is just one of many community corporate social investment (CSI) projects initiated by Bakwena within communities along its toll routes. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all children residing along the N1N4 route” says Van Wyk.
This initiative not only educated learners and teachers in road safety through a comprehensive road show, but also identified solutions for possible hazards to and from school.
Through Bakwena’s & Wheel Well’s joint “Glow Kids Glow” campaign, reflective beanies were alsoprovided to the learners ensuring the visibility of learners especially those that walk to and from school in the early morning.
The schools that benefitted from this joint initiative were Mosaledi Primary, Itereleng Primary, Reneilwe Primary, Mabu A Tlou Primary, Kekana Primary and Lefofa Primary Schools.
Bakwena is committed to various road safety initiatives along its route which are aimed at ensuring both teachers and children are equipped with road safety knowledge that will ultimately reduce crashes, injuries and save lives.
