As part of its billion-rand schedule of rehabilitation and construction projects for 2017, Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire announces it has commenced with a R95 million reconstruction project on the N4 between the towns of Zeerust and Lehurutshe. Road works commenced in February, and will continue through to December 2017.
Liam Clarke, Commercial Manager of Bakwena, says: “Bakwena prides itself on ensuring that the 385 kilometres it manages under its concession contract are maintained to the highest international standards. This does unfortunately result in some inconvenience to motorists, but we assure all drivers that the upgrades will enhance their driving experience, reduce delays and improve overall safety.”
The project starts at N4/R49 junction just outside of the town of Zeerust and ends 13km later, just west of the Lehurutshe T-junction. The carriageway will be completely rehabilitated by reconstructing the layerworks to a depth of 300mm, importing additional materials to strengthen the pavement and installing a double seal to make it as good as new. To enable the work to be carried out half width of the road will be closed.
Bakwena has implemented a manual 24 hour Stop/Go system for the duration of the 11-month construction period. Delays of approximately 15 minutes can be expected, says Clarke.
“We thank motorists for their patience while we carry out the necessary repair work. We also would like to advise road users to exercise extreme caution and restraint, and to obey all designated signs while construction is taking place,” concludes Clarke.
