Bakwena is pleased to advise that the upgrade of 22 km of the N4 National Road between Swartruggens and Moedwil at a cost of R165 million will commence in April this year. The total cost of upgrading the N4 from Zeerust through Swartruggens to Rustenburg is estimated at R586 million.
The toll fees charged at our toll plazas have been determined by considering numerous factors such as the fuel, time and vehicle maintenance savings for the road users, traffic volumes, the length of the section of road, cost of construction and the impact on the affected economies.
From the border to the Swartruggens toll plaza, a distance of 112 km, the local communities are not charged any toll as such communities reside to the west of the toll plaza. The result of this is that these communities move freely on a high standard road operated and maintained by Bakwena. Should a road user reside in the area of Zeerust and requires making use of the Swartruggens toll plaza (a distance of 62 km), a discount of 15% is applicable. Should a road user reside in the area of Swartruggens and requires to make user of the Swartruggens toll plaza (9 km)a discount of 75% is applicable. Residents of Zeerust and Swartruggens may apply at Bowen’s offices in Groot Marico for such discounts.
Bakwena will welcome further applications by local residents for discount cards since at the moment only 55% of the vehicles in the area are registered for discounts
