Paying for your transits

1. How do I pay for my e-tag transits?

At this stage the only payment option available is post-paid, which means that all your transits during a calendar month will be stored on our system and then charged against your credit card, fleet card or selected Garage cards at the beginning of the following month.

2. Which cards can I use for the post-paid option?

At the moment, Bakwena accepts the following cards for e-tag payments:

  • South African Master and Visa credit cards
  • Absa Fleet, First Auto, Nedfleet, Stannic fleet cards
  • Certain approved Garage cards

Please note that certain cards attract transaction charges from the banks.

3. What discounts are given by Bakwena?

  • Social Discounts - Bona fide residents of Hammanskraal/Themba area qualify for the social discounts
  • Local Discounts - Local discounts are granted to bona fide residents of Zeerust, Swartruggens and Groot Marico
  • Public Transport Discounts - In the urban Tshwane area, public transport vehicles (buses and mini bus taxi’s) qualify for discounts at Zambesi, Carousel and Pumulani plazas

Discounts are subject to annual renewal.

4. Can I link my Discount Card to the e-tag?

If you are in possession of a valid discount card (social, local or public transport discount) and wish to acquire an e-tag, please contact Pt Operational Services on (012) 804 9057. Our consultants will request the necessary documentation from you, and link it to the e-tag. You will be required to hand in your discount card once the discount is linked to the e-tag device. Please note that these discount cards must be renewed annually.

5. Can I pay by cash or credit card at the plaza if I want to?

Yes you can, but in a "Manual Lane Only" lane. Mixed Manual and/or Dynamic lanes will still recognize your e-tag, even if you want to pay by cash or credit card, and could result in double payment for your transit.
