The Project
Company Profile - The Project
The Platinum Toll Highway consists of a 95 kilometre section of the N1 running from Pretoria northwards to the town of Bela Bela [Warmbaths] and a 290 kilometre section of the N4 running from Pretoria westwards to the Botswana border.
During the first four years of the concession, the Concessionaire was required to undertake a series of initial construction works that include the upgrading of the existing roads and the construction of two new sections of the N4. The cost of the Initial Construction Works is approximately R 2 billion.
Throughout the remainder of the concession, the Concessionaire will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Platinum Highway and for executing Upgrade Works in response to traffic growth.
The Concessionaire has the right to charge and collect tolls on the Highway and a structure of appropriate discounts and rebates is in place.
To effectively toll the Highway, Bakwena has introduced a combination of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) and conventional manual tolling, which will enable tolls to be collected at minimum cost and with minimal disruption to traffic. The Dragados Group have extensive experience in the installation and operation of ETC systems, in both developed and developing countries.
