Mantsole Traffic Control Centre

Mantsole Traffic Control Centre

The Mantsole Traffic Control Centre is considered to be the flagship of traffic control centres in South Africa. In the course of 2005 this centre was completely upgraded with refurbished buildings, service lanes, new road signs, roadside equipment and closed circuit television cameras adjacent to both north and south bound carriageways. This effort has been put in to control truck overloading on the N1 highway, which in turn, and in time will have the effect of reducing wear and tear on the road as well as reduced potential for accidents due to overloading.

The Mantsole Traffic Control Centre was established by the South African National Roads Agency some years ago and has been upgraded at a cost of R15 million, but by managing and improving load control, many times this amount will be saved in future road repairs and rehabilitation works.

The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has entered into an agreement with Bakwena to manage and operate the Mantsole Traffic Control Centre. The Limpopo Province, through an agreement with SANRAL, is providing the traffic officers to undertake all the necessary law enforcement duties that are involved in overloading control, including the issuing of prosecution notices. There is also a “Roadside Court” within the Traffic Control Centre grounds. This court sits frequently with local Magistrates presiding over cases of overloading transgressions.

Bakwena is committed to improving the road safety on your N1N4 Toll Road.
